Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of English in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a non-tenure track teaching assistant professor in Rhetoric and Composition to start July 1, 2023. This is a 12-month faculty appointment; it is renewable for two 3-year appointments and then unlimited 5-year appointments with the opportunity for promotion to associate and full.

We are seeking candidates with interest in writing program administration, demonstrated facility with diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a commitment to exceptional teaching, who can help lead a dynamic writing program. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or a closely related field by the starting date. Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience and/or scholarly expertise in writing program administration, equitable pedagogy, basic writing pedagogy, and/or composition history and theory.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or a related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred on or before the initial date of appointment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of writing program or writing center administration experience 

  • Two or more years of experience teaching college-level writing

  • Demonstrated commitment to equitable teaching practices

  • Experience and/or scholarly expertise in writing program administration, equitable pedagogy, basic writing pedagogy, and/or composition history and theory

The Department of English offers B.A., M.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees. In addition to its Program in English, the department has a highly ranked Program in Creative Writing and Translation, a Program in Rhetoric and Composition, and coordinates with the Program in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies. With one of the largest graduate programs in Fulbright College, the department places a strong emphasis on the professionalization of students, including preparing them for alternative academic careers. English faculty are also visibly engaged with and/or lead various interdisciplinary programs and humanities initiatives across the College. Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act)

The Student Right to Know and Campus Security Act was passed in 1990 and was amended in 1998 to form the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. This law requires that certain institutions of higher education distribute to all current students and employees a copy of the required report, and to all prospective students and employees a summary of what is contained in the yearly report.
