The Department of Communication at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication with a specialization in Digital Media and Social Movements. Beginning in fall 2023, the ideal candidate will have research and/or teaching experience in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods of communication research. Candidates with backgrounds in Communication/Media Studies, Digital Humanities, Rhetorical Studies, and related fields will be considered. The successful candidate will teach the department’s core courses, help develop the curriculum in digital and new media, and offer courses on social movements, social reform, and change.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The department seeks an outstanding teacher-scholar who can diversify and complement our tracks and competencies in media literacy, rhetoric and writing, digital/new media, cultural diversity, and communication ethics. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory communication courses and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The candidate will have Ph.D. in hand by August 2023, a record of scholarship and teaching in their discipline, and a student-centered philosophy of teaching consistent with a teaching-focused liberal arts college. Candidates with lived experience as part of a traditionally-underrepresented group will be given preference.
