Position Details:
The Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State University invites applications for a permanent, full-time, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Pullman, WA, with a specialty in Mobile, Immersive, and Interactive Technologies and Design. We are especially interested in candidates using digital technologies, platforms, computational methods and creative practices that cross disciplines and that explicitly examine issues related to systemic racism and structural inequities in many forms and modalities. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2023.
Job Duties:
This position will join a multi-and interdisciplinary faculty and a growing major. The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses within their area of expertise. They will have a two course per semester (2-2) teaching load including undergraduate courses and graduate course in the certificate; aid in the management and development of collaborative practices, spaces, and projects that engage the university and other publics; be an active part of the DTC faculty; engage in creative production and research in their areas of expertise; and support current and emerging research, teaching, and creative activities in digital research at WSU system wide, to external communities, and within the region. The DTC program is committed to the retention of faculty and as such the successful candidate will be provided with a faculty mentoring committee within the College of Arts and Sciences and have access to university programs such as the External Mentor Program (https://advance.wsu.edu/externalmentors/).
Required Qualifications:

MFA, MDe, MAD, MGraph, or earned Ph.D. in Mobile technologies/platforms, Integrative Technologies, Digital Media, Media Arts, Interactive Media, Immersive technologies, Digital Humanities, or related area by time of appointment.

Demonstrated record of or potential for research and scholarship in Mobile, Immersive, and Interactive Technologies and Design broadly conceived.

Proven or potential for successful classroom and/or individual instruction, mentorship or internship leadership.

Demonstrated commitment to campus, department, and societal diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in mobile application development or production, interactive media, immersive technologies, VR/AR/XR, or related technology fields

Experience working in a studio, lab or collaborative production spaces, on collaborative projects, and/or within collaborative programs;

Commitment to retention of underrepresented students and student-success initiatives.

Digital Technology and Culture (DTC) is an interdisciplinary unit within the College of Arts and Sciences emphasizing humanistic understandings of technology, publicly engaged research, and creative production with a focus on social justice. The program values creative, collaborative, and publicly engaged scholarship that places an emphasis on explicitly anti-racist pedagogies, practices, and production in teaching, research, service, and scholarship that work to advance racial justice, reconciliation, and repair. The DTC program is a growing unit with several undergraduate tracks and a graduate certificate. Students in any track in the program receive instruction through engaged practice and critical approaches to a wide breath of theory, technology, and media. Digital Technology and Culture (DTC) emphasizes creative production and critical exploration of digital technology across multiple contexts. The program encourages creative research, scholarship, and production that invites critical perspectives, integrates diverse knowledge systems, and encompasses progressive and innovative uses of technology. Faculty in DTC value collaboration, commitment to interdisciplinartity, and engagement with diverse communities inside and outside the classroom. Students in DTC develop skills in web design, animation, graphic design, video production, augmented and virtual reality, and other emerging technology while integrating cultural, social, and historical perspectives, diverse methodologies, and inclusive frameworks.
